With Christmas only one week away I thought it would be fun to share some gift ideas for the beginning farmers in your life (or the future farmers … or lovers of farms!). The items on this list are mostly in the $30 or less range with only a couple of exceptions. All of the items are available on Amazon(the links are affiliate links and help support “The Beginning Farmer Show”), but many of them can also be found at your local farm store or hardware store. The other thing you may notice about the list is that it is mostly focused on a gift list for a farmer in the colder winter climates. Mittens are a great thing for a farmer in Iowa, but not so much for a farmer in Georgia … so … if you live in the warmer climates I would love to see your suggestions for those last minute Christmas gifts.
- Stormy Kromer Cap — A winter cap to keep you warm all winter long.
- King Corn DVD— The first film that I came across that really made me think about farming in the United States.
- Leather Mittens — On a cold day I will take mittens over gloves all of the time.
- You Can Farm by Joel Salatin — The first farming book that I read.
- Headlamp — Short days make for much work after dark and this is a tool that I use everyday.
- Chain Saw Chaps — $60 chaps are cheaper than a hospital trip everyday.
- American Meat DVD — Another film to checkout this winter to be encouraged about agriculture in the United States.
- Small Vice Grips — I carry these everyday and use them more than expected.
- The Contrary Farmer by Gene Logsdon — A great book for winter reading.
- Utility Folding Knife — Great for those projects that don’t need your good knife.
**Special Note :: A few users are experiencing issues downloading the show on iTunes. If you have any experience with podcasts and how they can play nicely with iTunes I would love some suggestions.**
Great suggestions! Don’t know what I’d do without my headlamp during the winter months! Also love Salatin’s books… Hope you have a great festive season!
In the same vein as the headlamps, magnetic task lights come in handy. Sometimes you need a little extra light in a specific spot when it’s not actually dark outside. A handy item to keep in your toolbox!
